How about albums you didn't have huge expectaions about, but blew you away?

For me at the moment this is Dead End by the Newlydeads!

I know a lot of you will put this band on the other list and it's definitly not for people who are only fans of the first Faster Pussycat album, but if you're slightly into Violent New Breed from Shotgun Messiah, the murderdolls, wednesday 13 or Marilyn Manson mixed with a fair dose of songwriting and LA then this is the record for you!

Prick - Prick. i got a sampler outside a show one night with the tune Animal on it. that song was good enough to pick up the cd one day when i saw it for $1 in a used store. turns out that Animal is the weekest track on the cd. fans of the heavier side of Bowie would enjoy Prick but be warned, his new one is not good.

God Lives Underwater - Empty. i had their GLU EP and enjoyed it but that was nothing to what Empty was. a classic cd from start to finish. Unfortunately their next release Life In The So-Called Space Age was a bomb. Marvelous3 - ReadySexGo. while on a business trip i came across this for $1 at a record exchange and having heard the name before i figured i would grab it for the long ride home. amazing album. best thing Butch has ever done, period.

I really liked the Vain - Move On It album & still do. That really struck a chord with me personally. Off the top of my head, it's my favourite US record in that genre.

I also bought the Skin N Bones album with all the boots on the cover for the cover alone & was suprised that they had some good things going on. That would have been about 1991 in Our Price in Bath. I remember the girl I was with at the time picked it up & said "They've got boots like yours" so I bought it! We went back to her room & she thought I was a musical genius because I was guessing the style of the tracks before we played them. Not hard with that record, "Cover Me with Roses" is clearly going to be the ballad & "Out With The Boys" the anthem-y rocker. It wasn't hard. Good tunes though.

Can't think of any others in this genre right now.

For other albums, there's WAY too many to name. D.A.D.-Everything Glows, Mozart-Paris Is Dying, Orphan Punks (sorry Ash, wasn't really expecting much)-Running With Scissors. Beat Angels-Red Badge. There's more, but again, way too many to mention.
